Posted on October 27, 2010, Wednesday

BERLIN: Paul the octopus, who shot to fame during this year’s football World Cup in South Africa for his flawless record in predicting game outcomes, has died, his aquarium in Germany said yesterday.

“Management and staff at the Oberhausen Sea Life Centre were devastated to discover that oracle octopus Paul, who achieved global renown during the recent World Cup, had passed away overnight,” the aquarium said in a sombre statement.

“Paul amazed the world by correctly predicting the winners of all Germany’s World Cup clashes, and then of the final,” said Sea Life manager Stefan Porwoll. — AFP

KUCHING: The Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) is keen to lure midfielder Joseph Kallang back to the state from TTeam Terengganu.

An FAS source said it was likely Sarawak would attempt to sign the talented midfielder to strengthen the Crocs for the 2011 Mleague.

Kallang still has a one-year contract to run with T-Team.

“Should Terengganu FA agree to release him, we will definitely take him back,” the source said.

However, it added, TTeam were not likely to agree to a free transfer for Kallang and the contract between the two FAs on the player’s future movement had to be studied thoroughly.

Persatuan Bola Sepak Sarawak Haram???

Pay locals more: Awg Mahyan

Hussin Abdul Rahman
Wednesday, 13 October 2010 13:17

KUCHING: Many football fans, especially those in the Peninsula, think they know a lot about Awang Mahyan Awang Muhammad, the coach synonymous with the war-cry Ngap Sayot.

Or the coach who bravel y jumped into the Sarawak River when Sarawak famously qualified for their first Malaysia Cup semifinal back in the 80s.

But Awang is more than the coach wrongly associated with robust tactics, as many opposing teams had claimed when they were defeated by Sarawak then.

The man, who is now more involved with lawn bowls and cricket (he’s the president of both the sports’ state bodies) and taking care of Sarawak referees, is a sophisticated character when it comes to football.

Awang, during a chat while he was watching the Kuching under- 14 cricket final between SMK Bandar Kuching 2 and SMK Muara Tuang last week, was refreshingly open and thoughtful when probed on football matters and coaching.

MY HONEST OPINION: SFFC mesti berubah

Jahar: Sarawak suntuk penjaga gol berwibawa

by Wan Ali Amit.
Posted on August 3, 2010, Tuesday

KUCHING: Dalam sejarah bola sepak Sarawak, tiada seorang pun penjaga gol yang menyarung pasukan negeri benar-benar dianggap berwibawa justeru mampu memantapkan benteng terakhir pasukan.

Foreign imports to make comeback in 2012

Borneo Post - Posted on October 1, 2010, Friday

SHAH ALAM: Foreign players who were barred from playing in the M-League, are expected to make a comeback in 2012 but certainly not in 2011 said the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM).

The FAM competition committee will propose to the FAM Executive Council that the ban remain for the 2011 season.

Competition committee chairman Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin said the decision was made although all the affiliates of FAM had unanimously agreed that the presence of imported players would inject excitement and enhance the M-League.
