In the final, the Kapit football squad defeated the Samarahan team 5-4 in the penalty shoot-out of the annual football tournament organised in conjunction with the 89th birthday celebration of the Head of State Tun Datuk Patinggi Abang Muhammad Salahuddin.

Played in front of some 1000 spectators, both teams were tied at 0-0 after regulation time.
The intense match was witnessed by Tun Salahuddin and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Norkiah.
Kapit team manager Douglas Jaga was proud and happy with the victory achieved by his boys in defending the champion title.

“Even though it was an intense match between the two teams, we are still definitely happy and satisfied with the win through the penalty shootout,” he said.

On the other hand, Samarahan’s team manager Ch’ng Oon Hock said that he is proud of the achievement and the performance of his boys which had brought them all the way to the final.

“This is so far our best achievement eventhough we did not win the final,” he said.

Meanwhile, finishing third was Betong team after defeating their close neighbour Sri Aman (fourth placing) 4-1.

Kuching meanwhile took the Yayasan Sarawak Silver Cup when they beat Kapit team 7-2 with Sibu and Sri Aman finishing third and fourth respectively.

A total of 22 teams throughout the state competed in both the Gold and Silver Yayasan Sarawak Cup tournaments this season. Prizes were presented to winners by Tun Salahuddin.
